Worker’s Compensation is an insurance in which a business purchases to protect its employee in case of injury during work. When an accident or injury happened to your employee on the job, worker’s compensation will help to cover the medical care, disability benefits as well as replacing the wages. The cost of workers' compensation is based on the gross payroll and the risk associated with the job duty.
In Massachusetts, all business must purchase workers’ compensation insurance. This also includes owners or family members that are considered as employees. Any business found operating without Massachusetts workers Compensation insurance by the Division of Industrial Accident will be given a Stop Work Order. In addition to the Stop Work Order, any business owner that’s found operating without Workers Compensation insurance may also be fined in the minimum amount of $100 per day until insurance is obtained or subject to criminal charges.
